Fencing Types We Install
Close-Board Fencing
Individual boards nailed to horizontal arris rails running between posts. More robust than panel fencing because individual boards can be replaced if damaged. Wind-resistant because the boards flex independently.
Feather-Edge Panel Fencing
Pre-assembled panels in standard widths fitted between posts. Faster to install than close-board and suitable where the ground is level.
Post-and-Rail
Three or four rails running horizontally between posts. Used for boundaries where privacy is not required. Often combined with a hedge in Cyncoed and Llandaff.
Picket Fencing
Vertical pale boards with pointed or shaped tops. Standard in front gardens and children’s play areas. Popular in Penylan and Pontcanna.
Garden Gates
Single and double gates in timber or metal, hung between posts or wall piers. All gates hung on heavy-duty external hinges with appropriate latches or locks.

Storm Damage and Fence Replacement in Cardiff
Cardiff’s south-westerly exposure means fencing takes regular storm damage in winter.

Storm Damage Repairs
Pontcanna, Canton, and Roath gardens are particularly exposed to wind channelled down long narrow plots. Cardiff Joiners handles storm damage fence replacement as a priority call-out.
Full Fence Replacement
Removing existing posts and panels and clearing the line. A new run is installed from scratch. Where posts are in concrete, we assess whether the concrete can be drilled for re-use.
Like-for-Like or New Spec
We advise at the site visit on the best approach. New posts can be re-set into existing bases in most cases.
